Crosses can be Idol Worship
The cross of Jesus was wood not gold, silver, brass, or a fancy carving. When God instructed Israel to make an alter He told them it was to be built of natural materials without carving or craftsmanship going into it.
"Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands." Psalms 115:4
Everyone, today, wants an emblem of the cross that they can wear; they want the cross to be a piece of jewelry. Most cross-emblems are made of a precious or semi-precious metal, but it should be just plain wood; for it was an old wooden cross that our Savior gave His life upon.
Have you tried to drive nails into a metal cross? Only wood will accept nails. Let us get real in honoring Christ by putting away all the fancy metal crosses, and if we have any cross at all, let it be just a plain wooden one.
This goes for all the crosses one finds on Church buildings too. They also are not wood, how can those be honoring our Savior? Instead they honor the world. Worldly churches will have fancy metal crosses all around, yet Jesus was nailed to plain wood which He carried to Calvary. Metal and fancy crosses are a form of idol worship!
Even the churches that have wooden crosses have ones that are varnished or painted. Was the cross of Jesus varnished or painted? No it was not!
Why don't worldly-religious people see the things of God? Because they have been blinded by idolatry. (Psalms 115)
"Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:"
Revelation 3:17
If ever a church returned to holiness like displaying a real unpainted or uncoated wooden cross they would find the Holy Spirit begin to move among them; for they have turned back unto the Lord. Whoever turns away from the world and to God, in all their ways, will find God turning to them!
"Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts." Malachi 3:7
